Magnifique tapisserie historique de la Manufacture d’Aubusson du 18ème siècle (vers 1730) représentant La Mort de Jules César en parfait état. Dimension: 2m80 L x 2m30 H L’assaut Debout derrière César, Casca intervient. C’est probablement lui qui a dû agir en second. En effet, à notre connaissance, personne n’a remarqué que le coup qu’il donne à César aurait dû être fatal s’il avait été correctement ajusté, verticalement, de haut en bas, à la base du cou, à gauche entre la clavicule et l’épaule. C’est ainsi que les Galates* se suicident dans les statues de Pergame. En sectionnant les gros vaisseaux sous-claviers, aortes et carotidiens, la lame provoque une énorme hémorragie qui entraîne la mort en quelques secondes. Mais, que ce soit la confusion ou le manque de précision de la part du tueur, ou le mouvement de la victime, le coup n’a causé qu’une blessure mineure, disent les sources. Sans doute la lame a glissé sur la clavicule et les côtes, coupant dans la poitrine. César a-t-il a-t-il aposttrophé Casca à cette époque ? Et Casca, voyant qu’il avait raté son tir, a-t-il appelé son frère à l’aide ? Les sources ne sont pas unanimes sur ces deux points, soit que les deux voix soient oblitérées par superposition, soit qu’il s’agisse d’une dramatisation a posteriori. Tout s’est passé si vite, et nous savons à quel point le témoignage humain est fragile.
