Intricate Pre-Columbian Textile, Peru Ex Ferdinand Anton
Located in San Pedro Garza Garcia, Nuevo Leon
Extremely detailed yellow embroidered Pre-Columbian textile fragment with hints of red from the Chancay culture in Peru. This piece is framed in a black shadowbox.
It is a wonder to behold antiquities such as a Pre-Columbian textiles, an authentic piece of art that has been preserved for centuries and that survives generation after generation. Textiles are infinitely more delicate than wood, metal, or rock artifacts -- so the existence of these pieces after hundreds and thousands of years is exceptional. These textiles maintain their vibrant colors, natural threads, and their unique, historical designs.
Provenance: This textile comes from the collection Ulrich Hoffmann, Stuttgart and former collection of the archaeologist Ferdinand Anton...

Antique French Aubusson Tapestry
Located in New York, NY
The Aubusson tapestry manufacture of the 17th and 18th centuries managed to compete with the royal manufacture of Gobelins tapestry and the privileged position of Beauvais tapestry. Tapestry manufacture at Aubusson, in the upper valley of the Creuse in central France, may have developed from looms in isolated family workshops established by Flemings that are noted in documents from the 16th century.
Typically, Aubusson tapestries depended on engravings as a design source or the full-scale cartoons from which the low-warp tapestry-weavers worked. As with Flemish and Parisian tapestries...

'Mango Fool' Signed Deanna Conti Large Wool Textile Wall Hanging 1970s
Located in Melbourne, AU
A wildly colourful 1970s hand woven woollen wall hanging by Australian artist Deanna Conti. Titled 'Mango Fool', it's a good example of Conti's work, which focuses on tropical themes and colours. Working from her Queensland studio since the 1970s, Conti's work is held in many private and public collections.
The central shape is ovoid and could represent a setting sun over water. The hanging tangles of wool inside this shape have been carefully woven to reveal deeper background colours. The background hangings in purple can be pulled through and draped as one pleases, or pushed back and allowed to attract the eye into the background of the weaving.
We love how this piece is so resonant of the 1970s Australian movement to organic living in Queensland. It so clearly belongs in a mudbrick home in the tropics, with raw timber joists and tiled floors, unglazed windows and resident Geckos, Tree Frogs and Orb-weaving spiders...
