18th Century Italian Fragment and Chalcedony Rosette Wall Sculpture
About the Item
A wall-mounted sculpture using an 18th century Italian gold distressed fragment with geode slices, chalcedony rosettes, crystal quartz points, and kyanite on a hand painted gallery 1-inch canvas. All of the minerals have been gold-plated. The canvas is distressed with gold powders used by restorers in Italy in the 18th and 19th century. The powders coordinate with the chalcedony rosettes and fragment piece. These powders are no longer available.
The 18th century fragment originally came from a church in Tuscany. The Italian artifact and minerals are mounted onto the gold powdered canvas and put together to create a 3D sculptural wall piece. The piece appears to have evolved together over time, interpreting the past to create historical yet contemporary work entirely original, evolving in its own right.
