A 19th century Chinese wall plaque hand-carved in lacquered rosewood. This rectangular wall plaque was made from rosewood, a red wood greatly appreciated in China. The centre of this panel showcases a lobed hand-carved medallion displaying a flower and bird composition with a bird resting on a peony-tree branch. This scene is well carved on the wood and enhanced with a translucent varnish. Flower and bird compositions are often auspicious in Chinese tradition.
