Antique Yellow Cast Iron French Mailbox with Enamel Date Dials

Old plank antique yellow cast iron French mailbox. Dated early 1900s-1930s. Cast iron and steel was used in the manufacturing process of mail boxes, beginning circa 1900 in France. They became known as “Mougeottes” after their founder. This particular French mailbox was produced by Delachanal of Paris and was probably made before 1930. Age: circa 1910s-1920s. These boxes are quite unusual as the drain holes in the bottom frequently blocked, allowing the bottoms to rust out.
