About the Item

The radiating sun motif reflects the optimism and indoor–outdoor living ideals central to California mid-century architecture. Solar imagery became a defining decorative element in the 1950s and 1960s, appearing on ranch houses, patio walls, carports, and garden structures as a symbol of warmth, prosperity, and the Southern California climate lifestyle. Panelcarve produced a range of sculptured redwood architectural elements in mid-century California, and this example represents a design originating from the Ackerman studio and manufactured under the Panelcarve name. The piece bears the original “© Panelcarve stamp, consistent with period production for architectural installation.
