19th Century Framed Wall Sculpture / Portrait of William I. or Willem Van Oranje

About the Item

Rare and remarkable sculpture of a famous Dutch figure of the House of Orange-Nassau. For the collectors of famous, Dutch historical figures, we are offering this extremely rare and highly decorative wall plaque depicting William I. or Prince of Orange (April 1533 - July 1584). His nickname 'William the Silent' (in Dutch 'Willem de Zwijger') has been debated over the centuries, because some historians have reasons to believe that in fact the Prince of Orange was very eloquent. We therefor believe that it is also possible (taken the Dutch humor into account) that he was given the nickname William the Silent, because he never was silent. We will not go into the reasons why he is of such historical significance to the history of the Netherlands and to the Royal Family, but what we must emphasize here is the quality and the rarity of this antique. The details in the facial features, but for example also the finest quality of the hand-carved collar reveal the work of the master carver whom created this rarity some 150+ years ago. The perfect condition and great patina of both the original frame and wall plaque also speak for the beauty of this true rarity. Mind you, it is the only one of its kind to be found anywhere on the worldwide web. Our price for this original antique includes perfect packing and also free delivery from our store to your door in just 4 days. Wherever you may live on our beautiful planet. Maximum height x width x depth: 19.25 x 16.3 x 1.5 inches. We have a passion for the unique, for quality, for stylish, for meaningful and for craftsmanship of years gone by. Your purchases will be extremely well packaged and we look forward to serving you (again).
