About the Item
Beautifully detailed and patinated, this pair of brass repoussé relief sculptures depict Vulcan at his forge, making lightning bolts to be thrown down from the sky, and Poseidon with his trident, riding the ocean in a large scallop shell pulled by a pair of hippocampus sea creatures. The pair dates to the early 20th century, clearly patterned after Renaissance models, and were made in France or Italy. They are mounted on handsome oak panels.
