Informazioni sull’articolo

Stunning four-door sideboard made in Italy during the 1970s, likely custom-designed and entirely handcrafted as a unique piece. Structure in solid walnut wood, with a pierced black-stained ash detail. The piece stands out for its rigorous composition, well-balanced proportions, and the high quality of craftsmanship—traits that place it among the most refined bespoke productions of the era. The entire structure is built in solid wood and fully clad in flamed walnut veneer, with vertically oriented grain and a glossy finish that enhances the depth and warmth of the wood tone. The body of the sideboard rests on a recessed base, almost invisible, which visually lightens the volume and gives the illusion of a floating top. This effect is further emphasized by the sharp line that separates the top from the front, where a pierced element in black-stained ash is inset in a regular pattern. This detail, rare in Italian production of the time, serves both an aesthetic and functional purpose: it introduces a graphic rhythm in contrast to the wooden surfaces, and recalls certain solutions typical of the Arts & Crafts movement, where craftsmanship meets decorative experimentation even in functional elements. The presence of the grille, the hand-treated wood, and the absence of handles or visible hardware ideally reference the poetic language of Rivadossi's woodworking, although this piece is not part of their official production—as confirmed through direct inquiry. The doors, perfectly aligned and without visual interruption, open via recessed grips to reveal a rationally divided interior, designed for everyday use but executed with the care typical of a one-of-a-kind piece. For its construction features, material quality, and formal solutions, this sideboard should be considered a remarkable example of high-level Italian craftsmanship from the second half of the 20th century, at a time when the boundaries between architecture, design, and fine carpentry were increasingly intertwined. The back of the piece is also beautifully finished, making it ideal for placement in the center of a room or living area. Notable are the manually inserted wooden dowels that join and secure the structure—an emblematic detail of high-end cabinetry without visible screws, reminiscent of the best artisanal workshops, such as Rivadossi.
