House on Carisbrooke
In Wellesley, Massachusetts, 1100 Architect designed the reconstruction and expansion of a dignified 90-year-old single-family home to meet the needs of contemporary living. The project includes selective interior updates, a re-ordered basement level, and a thoughtfully scaled addition that integrates with the home’s red brick façade and slate roof.
A new two-story extension on the south side replaces a pre-existing single story wing, leading the way to new pool and landscape improvements. On the north side, the existing wing has been selectively modified and enlarged with sensitivity to context and massing. Incremental modifications were made in other parts of the previously expanded home to better address maintenance and functionality requirements.
Altogether, the project conceives and delivers a high-performing residence comfortably capable of accommodating two to twelve family members in an environment of enhanced flow, livability, and visual continuity.
