Water Mill II
James Huniford transformed a 1910 shingled farmhouse to create a relaxed, contemporary take on a modern beach retreat that was also supportive to the family’s lifestyle. Huniford converted three small existing rooms into a multi-functional loft-like area to create an open layout and soothing color palette to encourage relaxation.
A soothing color of white, beige and blue-gray throughout the home lends a soothing sense of understated elegance tailored to the owners’ chic personal style. Milk-glass fixtures in the kitchen as well as the silvery-gray hue of the wood flooring, reclaimed from a barn in Vermont and stained in a chalky gray have a similar effect.
An industrial-style bookcase of reclaimed wood and plumbing piping adds warmth to the whitewashed color scheme. Details include a claw foot tub and glass-enclosed shower accented with silvery-blue hues that dominate the space including nursery in various shades of creams, complete with an embroidered daybed, a Swedish wood bedside table, and a 1940s rocker, found at a local antiques shop and re-upholstered in romantic floral.
