West Chelsea Residence

Jamie Drake’s own apartment in Chelsea’s gallery district is the realization of his personal vision. The 3,000 square feet space has 2 bedrooms and a large square open living space. A massive sculptural island directs people physically and visually into the space, with a 17 foot long white “runway” set at a unique angle, resting atop a gilded cube. A structural column in the middle of the space posed a challenge, and Drake chose to maximize it, encasing it in custom millwork of lacquer, ebonized oak, woven brass and steel and patinated steel. This central focus divides the room into 3 areas. Throughout the apartment, provocative art is placed against hard surfaces of cement like plaster, lacquer and polished Venetian plaster.
