Rare 1970s Aaronel deRoy Gruber Pink Blue Vacuum Formed Plexiglas Cuff Bracelet

About the Item

Layers of vacuum-formed clear, pink and blue plexiglas affixed on translucent acrylic cuff bracelet created by artist and sculptor Aaronel deRoy Gruber, circa 1970's. This rare and one of a kind handcrafted bracelet that should slide over the hand to be worn on the arm. Bracelet measures 2 1/8" by 3 1/8" by 2 1/2" with 1 1/8" opening. Circumference is 6 1/4" with a 1 1/8" gap. Signed Aaronel ©, 1971 and in very good, unworn 1970's condition. The following was provided by the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation with thanks: Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918-2011) was a prolific, pioneering female artist whose vibrant, volumetric Plexiglas sculptures and jewelry, and striking screenprints and canvases brought her recognition as a multifaceted modernist visionary throughout the mid-late 20th century. deRoy Gruber’s geometric sculptures are carefully orchestrated arrangements of vacuum-formed acrylic in distinct translucent colors. Widely collected today, deRoy Gruber's work was recently included in Moving Vision: Op and Kinetic Art of the Sixties and Seventies at the Oklahoma City Museum of Art and is in the permanent collection of the Carnegie Museum of Art, Pittsburgh, the Kawamura Memorial DIC Museum of Art, Japan and several other exceptional modern art collections around the world. GEOMETRICS was the brand identity formed by deRoy Gruber in the early 1970s through which the artist designed small-scale, wearable versions of the vacuum-formed Plexiglas sculptures she had come to master within a fine-art context. Single, double and triple tier pendant arrangements designed to be worn around the neck were crafted alongside wrist-cuffs and a variety of belt-buckles consisting of a single vibrant Plexiglas composition affixed on a metal-plated base. Her work and largest collection is managed by the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation, Pittsburgh.
