19th Century Lavender Amethyst and Seed Pearl 14K Gold Brooch
About the Item
This late 19th century oval shaped openwork brooch is set with a large faceted amethyst. The amethyst is brilliant cut, translucent and has a beautiful purple levender color. Thirty creamy white seed pearls are inlaid in the gold frame around the amethyst. The amethyst is set with prongs, making the stone clearly visible from every angle. The 14 karat gold mounting is decorated with a rope motif. The amethyst has an excellent clarity, with no inclusions visible to the naked eye.
Amethyst is the February birthstone and is said to strengthen relationships and give its wearer courage. This purple treasure is the most popular variety of quartz crystals that is considered the most powerful and protective stone. It has been sought after throughout the ages for its stunning colors and ability to stimulate the mind and emotions. Amethyst stones come in colors ranging from deep purple to the palest shades of pastel lavender and even pink.
The antique brooch is in very good condition and of high quality. The pin on the back was added to the brooch in a later period. The brooch measures 34 x 27 mm and weighs 11.79 grams.
