Antique Dutch Georgian /early Victorian Rose cut white Sapphire Amethyst Pin / Brooch set on an gold backed on silver with open work design . This kind of technique was very common in antique jewelry containing precious stones as it was believed by jewelers of that time that only a silver mounting could render the true beauty of a precious stone . Gold backing /coating was given as silver jewelry often left black stains on clothing or skin.
There are 12 approx 3mm diameter sapphires and 18 2mm rose cut sapphires .
Central oval amethyst stone is approx 6mm x 4mm .
Unsigned but guaranteed to be silver with gold backing .
