About the Item
A beautiful, antique mid Victorian mourning brooch or lace pin.
Crafted in 9kt gold with a rich aged patina, the brooch is a rounded rectangular shape, it has a beautiful little hidden detailing that can be seen up close!
Tiny little forget me not flowers have been carved into the black enamel, this is such a special little touch.
Centrally it has a glazed panel with a lock of dark blonde plaited hair within.
The words In Memory Of create the border for this sweet mourning piece.
Black enamel was commonly used on mourning jewellery and is said to represent death.
It fastens with an old c type clasp and pin fastener, the C part is very short but the brooch fastens quite tightly.
Unmarked, tests as 9ct gold, Victorian era, C1860s.
Condition:
Good used condition overall, surface wear commensurate with age and use, c clasp is shorter than usual, still fastens tightly.
