Art Deco Natural and Untreated Jade Brooch in Apple Green Singularly Spectacular

About the Item

Featuring a light apple green jadeite jade stone carved in a floral motif and set within a beautifully designed 14K rose gold framework, this Art Deco period brooch is quite the stunning rectangle of color, translucency and spring-green. Check out the last picture that I took with my phone in dim natural light. Zero retouching. Uh huh. It is *that* thick. Like two Triscuit crackers. Do they even make those anymore? What I love about the brooch is not merely the freshly-squeezed color of the stone but the thickness: 8.5 mm or over one-quarter-of-an-inch! When I first saw it I was positive it must be glass or Bakelite. But no. It is 100% natural and untreated jadeite jade from Burma. The density of the stone allows the light to really luxuriate inside it, so this brooch is luminous, ever-changing and looks entirely edible. It's a crisp brooch; so many jade brooches from this period feature oval pierced floral carvings which are certainly beautiful but not especially modern. This brooch is utterly in style and always will be because it's a basic geometric form. It's also a piece of art. Study the voluptuous, fluid carving up close and it's astounding to realize it was done by human hands and not some machine. Jade is a stone that is so tough you can carve chains from it and pull a wagon with a horse, I kid you not. Look at the back. It could have just a simple rectangle to support the jade but no; it's been artfully formed by a goldsmith who cared a great deal about every detail. That is the true hallmark of a fine gem whether it's made out of brass or solid gold: passionate attention to detail. This arresting item would be perfect on a lapel for any gender, used to fasten a scarf in position or just pinned to the chest like the prize that it is. And while I *love* this brooch, let us not forget that the engagement ring of Meghan, Duchess of Sussex was creating using diamonds that belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales. Which is to say, this brooch would make a very fine, bold ring or pendant. I'm just saying.
