Large, strong and joyful gilt, pearl and paste brooch in the form of a double 'cornucopia' (Horn of Plenty) from the Autumn/Winter collection of 2003.
Not much needs to be said about Coco Chanel, so famous and successful a designer is she!
Chanel opened her first costume jewellery display in 1924, many years in advance of what was to become a worldwide and continuing fashion. Whilst many disapproved of costume jewellery , praising fine or real jewellery, Chanel championed the merits of faux jewellery, often mixing both together, stating that real jewellery would no more enhance the wearer that faux! This supremacy of costume jewellery over real continued all through her career, (all of which is now legendary,through numerous books and films.), continuing right through to the creations of the current day.
