Edwardian Enamel Flower Brooch
About the Item
An Edwardian enamel flower brooch, in the form of a spray with a finely enamelled English Daisy and a Virginia Rose, each centrally-set with an old European-cut diamond estimated to weigh 0.1 carats in total, entwined with gold tendril decorations, all mounted in yellow gold with gold brooch fitting, circa 1900, measuring approximately 3.9 x 1.5cm, gross weight 5.7 grams.
This brooch is in very good condition, with minimal wear to the enamel. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold with 9ct gold pin.
This naturalistic Edwardian brooch is from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. The two lovely flowers, an English Daisy and a Virginia Rose are detailed and wonderfully rendered in enamel: the daisy features creamy white petals surrounding a gold centre set with a glittering diamond, and the rose features lovely pink enamel petals surrounding a further lively diamond. This brooch is emblematic of the early Edwardian period, when floral motifs became popular, and would be pretty worn on the lapel of a smart boucle summer jacket.
