Edwardian Natural Pearl and Diamond Brooch
About the Item
An Edwardian natural pearl and diamond brooch, the two natural pearls accompanied by GCS certificate number stating the pearls to be natural of saltwater origin, the larger pearl suspending from a diamond-set scrolled designed bar with a smaller pearl to the centre, estimated total diamond weight 1 carat, all in platinum to yellow gold back, measuring approximately 4 x 2.4cm, circa 1905, gross weight 6 grams.
An elegant and sophisticated brooch. This brooch, made in around 1905, comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. The openwork platinum set with lively diamonds in a scroll motif is heavily influenced by contemporary Art Nouveau design. The focal point of this lovely brooch is the large natural pearl that hands from the delicate platinum work: it has a wonderful shape and lustre and acts as a beautiful complement to the delicate platinum and diamond brooch setting.
