Georgian convertible brooch and pendant. Great antique piece, created in England during the Georgian period, circa 1820. This is a convertible pendant brooch carefully crafted in solid yellow gold of 18 karats and accented with applications of black enamel. Embelished with fine selection of gemstones such Dutch rose cuts diamonds and a Colombian emerald. It is fitted at the reverse with a hinged pin bar with a security hook to wear as a brooch. This piece can be also wear as a pendant. It should be noted that the emerald and diamonds used in this piece are of exceptional quality. Seeing a piece from this period with an emerald of this quality is very rare and difficult. Usually these pieces with that kind of precious stones were disassembled during the later Victorian period to create new pieces. This is a great brooch of great rarity, with an excellent craftsmanship and surely a collector's item. Diamonds: Accented with 8 old Dutch rose cut diamonds, 3.84 carats, white colorless F/G color, SI-1 clarity. Emerald: Mounted with 1 semi round cabochon cut (7.1 x .2 x 4.5 mm) of a natural Colombian vivid green emerald of 1.70 carats. Note: The emerald displayed in this piece, are from the Muzo region in Colombia, with great green color saturation, vivid green and transparent with no inclusions. Muzo is a town and municipality in the western Bocaya province, part of the department of Bocaya, Colombia. It is widely known as the world capital of emeralds for the mines containing the world's highest quality gems of this type. Birthstone: Emerald for the month of May. Weight: 27.45 Grams, (17.60 Dwt). Measurements: 41 mm by 43 mm by 23 mm (1.61 x 1.69 x 0.91 Inches). Hallmarks: No marks, electronically tested for 18 karats gold. Georgian Jewelry The term Georgian refers to an era in English history during the reign of Kings George I to King George IV from 1714 - 1840. Like the term Victorian (used for jewelry during Queen Victoria's rule), it is accepted in use as a term that refers to certain styles of jewelry. Pearls, sapphires, rubies and garnets were widely used in Georgian jewellery, often cut in the shape of a cabochon or teardrop. Rubies and pearls were a fashionable combination at the time. Outstanding jeweled Pendant-Brooch designed by Verdura. An iconic vintage piece, designed in 1950 by Verdura as a stylized asymmetric eight pointed Maltese cross. It was individually assembled by pieces, crafted in solid 18 karats of high polished yellow gold and embellished with gemstones. Suited at the reverse with a hinged vertical double pins bars with a trombone lock. Can be wear as a pendant too. Prong set with a mix of 28 rounds and oval cuts gems, of natural green tourmaline, gradated from deep and light color variations,. They have a combined weight of about 30 carats. Accented, with 22 round brilliant cut diamonds, all prong set, with a total weight of 1.10 carats, F/G color, VS-2 clarity. This piece have a total weight of 54.1 grams and a measures of 58 mm by 58 mm (2.28 by 2.28 inches). Stamped with the maker's mark, serially numbered and signed, "VERDURA VC 1061". The Duke Fulco Di Verdura (1899-1978) start his career as a designer in Paris in 1920, Creating the iconic Maltese cross cuff bracelet for his friend Coco Chanel. In the 1934 he moved to the United States and closely collaborate with Paul Flato in California, designing jewelry for the Hollywood stars of the new movie era, including Greta Garbo and Marlene Dietrich. In the 1939, he moved again, but this time to the city of New York and open the Verdura boutique, in the Fifth Avenue location. in that period Verdura gain the estimation of the very high-profile clientele in the new York's high society.
