Important Exquisite Rare Antique Hardstone Gold & Enamel Cameo Brooch

About the Item

A high-quality gold hardstone cameo (Circa 1860) depicting a classical roman lady, probably a deity or Bacchante. The detail is magnificent, with intricately hand-carved hardstone coupled with fine gold wirework and beading. The blue and white ornate enamel decorative oval frame sets this Cameo apart from any we have ever seen. A truly stunning piece! Hardstone cameos are the epitome of cameo art, and their monetary value reflects this. The use of hardstones dates back to ancient Rome. Artisans in the late 18th century produced pieces with noble and powerful subjects, reflecting the revival of the art of classical Greece and Rome. By the time Queen Victoria ascended the throne in 1837, Cameos were characterized by romanticism and femininity and a revival of subjects from classical mythology. The passion for ancient history fuelled by archaeological discoveries and written accounts of the exploits of ancient civilizations made this period ripe for revivals of ancient jewellery styles. Many Cameos were carved in the neo-classical style popular in the late 1700s and early 1800s when taste in the arts echoed the subject matter and style of the Greek and Roman masters. Neo-classical Cameos are highly sought after and even became a favourite of Queen Victoria. This example is one of the finest Cameos we have ever exhibited in excellent condition. The frame is equally beautiful and made from high-grade gold, most likely 15ct or 18ct yellow gold, although not hallmarked due to the age of the piece. It features a rope edge beaded gold border, gold relief and wirework, and gold floral motifs interspersed with white enamel at the top and bottom of the Cameo, with gold pearls at the centre of each floral point. The Cameo comes complete with a C-loop and a pin. ------------------------------ Condition Report: In excellent condition. Some minor losses to the enamel are commensurate with ageing and time. • Rare Antique Pocket Key Watch French 1800s with Painted Enamel Dial
    Located in London, GB
Rare Antique Pocket Key Watch French 1800s with Painted Enamel Dial in Working Order An exceptional example of French craftwork estimated from the mid-1800s with delicate enamel painting on the dial and bespoke Roman numerals. Pocket watches have long been a token of style and refinement, even in today’s modern era. During the mid-1800s, this would have been a status symbol as manufacturing had increased so that it was more widely available. Everyone from businessmen to international travelers would have relied on a precise pocket watch to measure the train schedules, daily paper, and end of the work day. In this case, the unique painted enamel on the dial and custom Roman numerals would mean a man of means owned this watch. Instead of relying on a more standard manufactured piece, this would have been hand-finished, demonstrating more wealth. What makes this particular timepiece so rare is the polychrome decoration of a city on the water. When you look closely at the dial, you’ll find detailed decorations of a cartouche and flora motifs perfectly offsetting the silver casement. Both of the keys are attached to a metal chain, and the appearance of the monogrammed FB is evident on the cover metal. A French inscription on the interior reads: “Echappement a Cylindre Aiguilles Quatre Rubiz.” The keys refer to the critical winding and lock set for maintaining the watch. You can also see the makers mark numbered 9356 11509. ------------------------------ Condition Report: In worker order and high quality, considering it is an antique pocket watch. There are minor age-related marks on the silver casement and some fading that will be cleaned and polished before shipping. No damage to the enamel or hands. We service all pocket watches...

Incredibly Rare & Exquisite Singing-Bird Box Inspired by Charles Bruguier Inlaid with Gold, Mother-of-Pearl and Enamel 為珍珠、珍珠母和琺瑯鑲嵌的歌鳥盒 For nearly two centuries, miniature singing bird boxes have captivated collectors around the world. With masterpieces being produced by French, German, and Swiss artisans, these delicate and intricately ornate boxes combine the simple eloquence of technological machinery with fantastic artistry. This particular offering is directly inspired by famed Swiss craftsman Charles Bruguier, produced in a rich and vibrant tortoiseshell fascia. The ornate flower petals and nature motif is offset by the vibrant colors and underlying miniaturized bird with an ivory beak and natural feathers. When wound, the front slide opens the bird lid and activates the movement and song of the finely crafted mechanical device. The detailing of the machinery is remarkable, while the pastoral scene adds a sense of old-world charm to any collection. These were highly sought-after pieces of art by nobles and royalty alike as the utility of automata was still in vogue during the 19th century. Charles Bruguier only crafted 27 singing bird boxes a year from his small studio. Although we cannot verify the origin of this particular piece, the matching artwork...
