JANESICH 1920 Paris Art Deco Jabot Brooch In Platinum With Diamonds & Onyxes

About the Item

An art deco Jabot brooch designed by Janesich. This is a very rare jabot-brooch, created in Paris France during the art deco period, back in the 1920. The gorgeous jabot has been carefully crafted by the Italian born company of Janesich with impeccable details in solid .900/.999 platinum and .100/.999 iridium. The jabot is embellished with an amazing selection of fifty-four earth mined natural gemstones, such; old European rose cuts diamonds and a black onyx. It is fitted with a concealed twisted lock to wear in the lapel. Diamond: Mounted in pave settings, with 50 European rose cut diamonds with a combined weight of about 1.08 carats, white colorless F/G/H color, VS/SI clarity. Onyx: Mounted in millegrain settings, with 4 French calibre cuts carved from natural black onyxes, with about 0.55 carats. Millegrain This term is for a jewelry technique which refers to the textural effect of a close-set line of metal beads that are typically used as a border on the edges or bezels of jewelry. Weight: 4.75 grams, (3.05 Dwt). Measurements: 67 mm by 34 mm (2.63 x 1.34 Inch). Hallmarks: Stamped with French marks; the maker's mark, the dog mark for the assay and warranty of the platinum, the five-digits serial numbers and signed as follows, "JANESICH 12872". Janesich The fine jewelry house of Janesich was founded in 1835 by Leopoldo Janesich, in Trieste, his native town. Janesich jewels were first coveted by the Austrian aristocracy, who made Trieste their favorite vacation destination, and later found great favor with the Italian bourgeoisie. At Leopoldo’s death in 1880, his son Giovanni assumed leadership of the firm opening a shop in Paris at 19 rue de la Paix. Subsequent salons were opened in Biarritz, London, Monte Carlo and Vichy drawing such eminent clients as the Archduke of Austria and King Nicholas of Montenegro. After World War I, the Janesich style became decidedly Art Deco, in keeping with the great fashion of the 1920s and ‘30s. The firm continued to grow, but the onset of World War II mandated the closing of the Paris shop, as the family retreated to their native Italy. The sixth generation now continues the Janesich tradition in Trieste some 180 years later. (Beladora with thanks). Collateral: This Janesich jabot brooch is accompanied by a presentation jewelry box.
