Joan Parcher Glass & Vitreous Enamel on Copper with Silver Brooch
About the Item
A fine modern Joan Parcher brooch.
From the "Phosphene" series.
With small glass beads applied to a vitreous enameled bent copper disc. (Formed in the shape of an outward projection of a square).
The reverse has a sterling silver X-shaped prong setting and pin stem.
Signed with an etched signature for Joan Parcher.
Joan Parcher is well known for her vitreous enameled copper jewelry. This brooch is a part of her "Phosphene" series, which refers to sparkles of light that are produced by rubbing one’s closed eyes. Parcher has had a long time fascination with sparkle and shine and its connection to industrial detritus, which she attributes to her grandparents working in glass factory near Pittsburg when she was a child.
Parcher's work is held numerous public collections, including the Smithsonian and other important private collections.

Condition Details:
There are some losses to the beading and enamel (particularly to the edges). The biggest spots of loss are around two prongs. Otherwise, there are some fine & light surface scratches and other signs of expected light wear consistent with age.
