A rare enamelled metal and paste 'Two Birds ' brooch, Trifari, USA, 1930s
Located in Greyabbey, County Down
A beautifully crafted and highly sort after/collectable early piece from Trifari, an enchanting 'life in miniature', with two birds on a branch, with bird box. Cold enamelled and highlighted with pastes, it would be a great asset to any collection of costume jewellery, in particular, that of Trifari pieces, a jewel of great charm and warmth. It has the typical 'fur clip' fitting (a double pronged fitting), highly characteristic of Trifari jewels at this time. The firm of Trifari was founded in 1925 by Gustavo Trifari, Leo F...

1941 ChanelRelevant American Reinad ArtDecoStyle Silver PolkaDot LargeBow Brooch
Located in Chicago, IL
In Spring 1941 after French fashion couturier Gabriel "Coco" Chanel had stopped production of her clothing designs while she remained in Europe during the WWII era, the decades-old American costume-jewelry company Reinad began imprinting pieces in its new retail line, Chanel Novelty Co, with the script signature "Chanel". As this was prior to the use of the sans-serif capital-letter signature "CHANEL" on French-made jewelry that was commissioned by the Parisian designer, as well as before U.S.-copyright protection began in 1955, the House of Chanel that was mostly owned by the Jewish Wertheimer family of venture capitalists (who remarkably still produced Parfums CHANEL and French-vineyard wine via legal proxy while they lived in asylum in The States during the war) filed a U.S. lawsuit to demand that Reinad halt the use of its founder's famous last name. As the Werthheimers' quickly won, Reinad only produced the single seasonal collection stamped with the French brand name, and subsequently only imprinted its company name as the sans-serif capital-letter signature "REINAD" without a copyright symbol, which was different that its prior signatures dating back to its founding in 1922. When Chanel herself resumed French-made fashion production in Paris in 1953 (with Werthheimer support leading to their acquisition of all rights to her name despite her post-war eight-year exile in Switzerland due to close association with Nazis), for the first time all of her creations were signed "CHANEL" like the original packaging of the exceedingly profitable "No.5" perfume. While Reinad continued to produced costume jewelry until 1954, in the last decade of this business, the U.S. company continued to try to appeal to potential Chanel buyers by at least making Chanel-style designs. As such, owning an attractive and well-made Reinad piece can be considered a useful investment in fashion history as evidence of a little-known turning-point involving the most famous ongoing luxury-fashion business Chanel, as well as of the impact of that legal judgement had on advancing U.S. design protection for brands that later used the copyright symbol. Like early ArtDeco-style oversized heavy metallic costume jewelry by Chanel, this three-dimensional monochrome silver-alloy polkadot bow brooch imitates a pale polkadot-textured ribbon. Notably, while high-quality ribbon for styling hair or decorating clothing in a non-functional way was still an expensive accessory...

1980s Lazaro Diaz NY Neoclassical Costume Brooch
Located in Miami Beach, FL
Vintage early example of Lazaro Diaz's classic designs featuring a sugarloaf faux onyx with faux carnelian, pearl and rhinestone accents. Signed on the back Lazaro INC NY From the company Bio: "A BIG INFLUENCE ON ME WAS ANCIENT HISTORY AND MYTHOLOGY, AS WELL AS THE CULTURE AND THE MUSIC OF THE 1960S & 1970S." Drawing on architectural elements of ancient Greece and Roman history, tempered with the influences of Moroccan and Indian design, every collection Lazaro designs has a fresh and modern edge for present day while preserving all that is classic. From the delicate to the bold, from the sculptural to the chaotic, there exists something in the collection for everyone. Custom designs and collaborations make Lazaro a sought after commodity in today's world where there is little left to the consumer's own influence on a piece they desire to wear. Lazaro's jewelry has been photographed by hundreds of publications since the 1980s. Featured often in Ponytail, Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Town & Country, Elle, Rolling Stone, Guitar Aficionado and W Magazine (to name a few) and on such stars as Jay-Z, Cindy Crawford, Jimmy Page, Santigold and Jennifer Aniston. Additionally, the jewelry has been used in numerous television shows and movies. Since 1981, jewelry designer Lazaro Diaz has been creating what can best be described in the jewelry and fashion world as "wearable art". Born in Cuba and arriving in the United States at age 4 would seem a most insurmountable challenge to anyone. However, Lazaro faced that obstacle as he has faced any in his challenging career and craft: with unwavering confidence and conviction in his abilities and a dedication to quality and the creation of unique art. His effort and diligence have certainly paid off as Lazaro is one of the most enduring designers alive. Lazaro's creations reflect a connection to history and craftsmanship which is a rarity today. Working in platinum, gold and silver and utilizing precious and semi-precious stones, each creation exudes volumes of detail and emotion. The wearer not only knows they have a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece, but a piece that will endure stylistically. WHO WEARS LAZARO: ASHLEY GREEN B.O.B. A mirrored glass and alousel brooch and earrings, Line Vautrin, France, 1960s
Located in Greyabbey, County Down
This Talousel and mirrored glass brooch and earrings is a fine example of the later work of Line Vautrin from the 1960s. A most beautiful and unusual colour, each piece is truly artisan, made and assembled by hand. The delicate mirrored and resin elements are stacked or jumbled, on top of each other, to create an utterly delightful and original design, highly typical of this magical designer. An astounding artist, the truly individual Line Vautrin was named a ‘poetess in metal’ by Vogue magazine in 1948, starting her career in such prestigious surroundings, making buttons for Schiaparelli. She went on create some of the most extraordinary and individual jewellery, artists’ jewellery in very poetic and clever designs. Cartier Style Emerald Cut Sapphire Crystal Brooch, Ear Crawler Demi Parure–1950s
Located in Tucson, AZ
Though it is over a half century old, this exquisite earring and brooch set is as chunky, relevant and wearable as any modern costume jewelry. Fiery and brilliant, their centerpieces are their single emerald-cut crystals, which resemble Cartier gemstones. The surrounding light and dark blue faceted rhinestones gather and reflect further light for a set of remarkable glamour and substance. Curved ear crawlers featuring ¾” emerald-cut crystals surrounded by 4 and 6 mm faceted blue rhinestones; clip backs. Matching solitaire brooch with 1 1/8” wide emerald-cut crystal surrounded by 4 mm faceted blue rhinestones; rollover safety clasp. **please note: when light is shone through from behind, brooch crystal is a brighter, more vibrant blue than large crystals in earrings, but this color difference is virtually eliminated when brooch is worn. This suggests the earrings and brooch were a mismatched set...
