1940s Retro period spray brooch made of 14kt yellow gold, approximately 21.18 carats of glorious moonstones and approximately .27 carats of sapphires. The brooch measures 3 1/4 inches long by approximately 3 1/8 inches at the widest point. You don't get moonstones like this anymore! The pictures don't do them justice- they have that glowing blue adularescence that all moonstone WANTS but doesn't always have. It's like a fairy holding a blue lantern in each plump, gumdrop of a cabochon. You could easily sling a chain through the top of the closed pin stem and wear it as necklace. During WWII, gold was scarce and diamonds were scarcer. Most Retro jewelry contains rubies as a result, so having sapphires in this brooch is a treat. The light blue of the moonstones and the darker blue of the sapphires foreshadows the light and dark color combinations of the 60s. It would take the world 20 more years to catch up the color design that the 40s did so well. This was a time of celebration...
