About the Item

Guilloché (usually "Guilloche" in English) is an engraving technique in which a very precise, intricate pattern is mechanically etched in an underlying material with very fine detail. Most commonly, the Guilloché surface is then enameled and the repetitive, intricate design shows through the colorful enamel. A rare and stunning portrait pin from the Edwardian (ca1910) era! This piece was designed by M.A. Plojoux, a famous Swiss watch and jewelry maker from the late 19th century. This 18kt yellow gold pin features the portrait of a beautiful woman in profile, encircled by a diamond encrusted border. The image depicts a young woman wearing an enameled green headscarf, ornate jewelry, and decorative top. The hand-painted details on her face are exquisite, including rosy cheeks, blue eyes, and a calm gaze. Sparkling accent diamonds adorn the jewelry and headpiece, and vibrant gold outlines the intricate details. The portrait rests on a deep red enameled surface that features Egyptian pyramids and structures in the background. An exquisite engine-turned pattern below the enamel fans out from the center in wavy rows, a perfect example of the Guilloché art form! Rose Cut diamonds set in platinum encircle the portrait, exhibiting an incredible sparkling array and create a lovely mixed metals appeal. A secure pin clasp is attached to the back, and stamped on the edge is "PLOJOUX" "GENÉVE" and "35521." A fabulous and unusual Guilloché piece by a renowned jeweler, this pin would make a wonderful addition to any collection! The pin measures approximately 1 1/8" in diameter and is about 1/8" thick. The overall condition of the piece is excellent. Besides normal surface wear, there is no apparent damage to the setting or pin clasp. All of the diamonds are intact and the enameling is extremely well-preserved, and free of any visible chips, fading, or scratches.
