Rare Egyptian Revival Pharoah Brooch Lapis Diamond Ruby Pearl Enamel Art Deco
About the Item
This is a museum quality Belle Epoque - Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece with a Lapis Lazuli Pharoah, adorned with Old Mine and Rose Cut Diamonds, Ruby, and Pearls and set in 14 Karat Bi-color Gold with yellow, blue and black enamel. The brooch depicts a Pharoah hand carved in Lapis Lazuli. The face is beautifully done by a master artisan with a regal expression of great dignity. The Pharoah's headdress is adorned with stunning Old MIne Cut and Rose Cut Diamonds of great beauty. On the top is an oval faceted Ruby. The headdress has beaded milgrain borders with yellow, pale blue and black enamel. The brooch dates to circa 1880 - 1930.
The pin itself is 14 Karat rose and white gold and is set with two pearls. The pin has a secure barrel clasp with a further prong for added safety. The jewel is a masterful expression of the Egyptian Archeological Revival Movement. The dramatic Pharoah hand carved out of Lapis Lazuli with the radiant diamonds and ruby in bi-color gold is a museum quality treasure.
For centuries, Ancient Egypt has held the fascination of the public and continues to inspire artists and designers alike. With the discoveries of Egyptian tombs, and the treasures within, in the 19th and early 20th centuries, the exotically opulent lives of the Pharaohs were beyond anyone’s imagination. Of all the precious objects unearthed in the tombs, the lavish jewels were perhaps the most fascinating for their extravagance and never-before-seen symbolism. The Roaring Twenties and the period’s Art Deco jewelry embraced the vivid contrasting colors, motifs, and symbols more daringly than ever before. Whether the jewels were complete, faithful reproductions or real artifacts preciously decorated in similar style, the Egyptian Revival jewelry during the Art Deco era is the most lavish and magnificent.
The brooch is 2.5 inches long and 1 inch tall.
It is not hallmarked.

Egyptian Revival Plique A Jour Enamel Winged Scarab Insect Brooch Pin Art Deco
Located in New York, NY
A rare Art Deco Egyptian Revival masterpiece of a Winged Scarab Insect Brooch done in Plique a Jour Enamel over Silver. The Museum Quality brooch depicts a winged Scarab beetle, one of the signature motifs of the Egyptian Revival movement.
The brooch is done with extraordinary Purple and Green iridescent Plique a Jour Enamel. Plique Enamel requires the skills of a master artisan to create. When finished, the Plique enamel creates a see through enamel which allows light to shine through, reminiscent of a stained glass window. This brooch is a masterpiece of the technique and one of the most beautiful pieces we have seen. The brooch pin is Silver with a gold wash. It dates to the Art Nouveau to Art Deco period, circa 1880-1920. It has its early C-clasp. The brooch could be easily converted to a pendant necklace if desired.
Plique-à-jour (French for "letting in daylight") is a vitreous enameling technique where the enamel is applied in cells, similar to cloisonné, but with no backing in the final product, so light can shine through the transparent or translucent enamel. It is in effect a miniature version of stained-glass and is considered very challenging technically: high time...
