A rock crystal and diamond bow brooch by Ernst Paltscho, to the centre an old brilliant-cut diamond estimated to weigh 1 carat fine millegrain-set, surrounded by sixteen Swiss-cut diamonds, flanked on either side by rock crystal panels delicately etched in a floral and scrolling tendril motif, all edged by a border of old brilliant-cut diamonds, the small diamonds estimated to weigh a further total of 1.5 carats, all set in platinum open back mount with gold brooch fitting, accompanied by original fitted case, circa 1905, unmarked, tested as platinum and 14ct gold, measuring approximately 5.5 x 2cm, gross weight 9.6 grams. This elegant rock crystal and diamond bow brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. The brooch and central diamonds are bordered by heavenly brilliant cut diamonds. The brooch is all set in platinum with an open back mount and accompanied by the original fitted case created in c. 1905. The designer of the brooch, Ernst Paltscho, originally started working in his father Carl’s jewellery business back in 1881. He was appointed jeweller to the Greek Royal House and worked for many of the Austro-Hungarian aristocracy. Ernest Paltscho became known for his spectacular jewels set with colourful, beautifully designs in carved hardstones as shown in this sumptuous brooch. This elegant brooch would be a perfect addition to a little black cocktail dress and would add a touch of vintage sparkle. This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as platinum and 14ct gold.
