Signed Tod Pardon Mixed Media Sculpture Brooches, 'Blood Hounds' & 'Hunger'

About the Item

We have two very rare and important signed abstract modernist mixed media sculpture brooches by Tod Pardon. In his artist statement, Pardon describes his work as an expression of life's inherent duality and instability, mixing contrasting shapes, colors, and materials to communicate these contradictions. Many of his pieces are inspired by the Balinese demon goddess, Rangda, Queen of the Leyaks, and depict highly stylized and otherworldly animal-like figures. Each piece is uniquely crafted using sterling silver, 14k gold, and a mix of pigment/enamel, resin, stone, and wood. The brooches come with their own wood bases and are displayed by inserting the safety pins into metal tube stands on top. We're not sure of their exact age, but they look like his earlier work circa the 1990s. There is notable tarnishing to silver given these pieces have been on display for some time, but the colors and details of the inlaid materials have remained sharp and vibrant. Details for each piece are listed below, but both brooches are in museum-quality condition with age-appropriate wear and discoloration. **This listing contains photographs of the actual item you will receive. Please look closely at the pictures as they are part of the product description. Every piece is cleaned, polished, examined, and described to the best of our ability and we encourage you to reach out with any questions.** 1.
