GIA Certified Natural Pearl & Diamond Brooch Victorian

About the Item

This simple and beautiful Victorian-era chatelaine brooch dates to about 1890 and features seven luminous GIA-certified natural saltwater pearls together with seven bright and sparkling diamonds that together way about .25 carats. A brief length of chain is attached to a second brooch in the form of a feather. This brooch was entirely hand-fabricated including the clasp on the back. The brooch has been rendered in 18K yellow gold but the diamonds are prong-set into platinum. A "Chatelaine Brooch" is a brooch with an attached accessory. Sometimes that attached accessory was a key or a mirror but in this case, it is a feather. Perfectly unisex, the brooch can be worn by a man or a woman. It looks great on a necktie and perfect on the lapel of a jacket or a scarf. The circular wreath portion of the brooch measures 17.20mm across. The chain is 52mm. And the feather is 25mm. Each pearl measures approximately 3.4mm and the pearls are a lustrous white with no overtone. Natural saltwater pearls are rare. This rare Victorian brooch ships with a GIA certificate attesting to the fact that the pearls are natural (uncultured) saltwater pearls. There no hallmarks on this piece which is not uncommon for jewelry from this period. Likely American.
