Unusual Mechanical Jewelled Gold Clown Dress Clip
About the Item
This unusual clown or Japanese mask dress clip has a jointed mouth which allows the ominous sapphire teeth to open and close.
Beautifully rendered in both matte and shiny 18K gold. The pear shaped ruby eyes are surrounded by small diamonds. A cab sapphire sits in between. The teeth are composed of beautiful sapphire baguettes which are bezel set in white gold. Pulling down on the chin opens the jointed jaw. This clip was made in Italy in the 1960s and is attributed to artist Luigi Natalini. Not much is known about this artist jeweler except that Harlequins and clowns were a favorite subject matter. In any case the quality of the work is exceptional.
