Antique Fossilized White Coral 18K Gold Seed Pearl Brooch
About the Item
This is an antique 19th century fossilized white coral brooch set with eight seed pearls. The fossilized coral and pearls are set in an 18 karat gold round worked frame. The frame of the brooch is designed with a rope motif, curls and pearls, granulation and beading. The pearls are striking in this wonderful setting of coral and yellow gold, four pearls are set on each side of the coral while larger pearls are placed on the gold rim of the brooch.
Fossil coral is a natural gemstone that is created when prehistoric coral is gradually replaced with agate. Corals are marine animals and it is their skeletons that are fossilized and preserved. The fossil coral forms through hardened deposits left by silica-rich waters. The entire process can take over millions of years.
The condition of the brooch is very good - due to her antique age the coral has a small hairline on the left corner. This does not affect the wearability and beauty of the brooch. Marked and tested as 18 karat gold.
