Victorian Caduceus Brooch

About the Item

A Victorian caduceus brooch, a pair of old brilliant-cut diamond-set snake heads set with ruby eyes and a green and a red enamelled tail surmounted by a pair of old brilliant-cut diamond set wings and a ruby centre to a gold staff terminated with two pearls, silver set to a gold mount with a brooch pin fitting, to a fitted square box, circa 1880, measuring approximately 5x4cm, gross weight 7.0 grams. Victorian brooch with minor enamel deficient. Unmarked, metal tested as 18ct gold and silver, and 9ct gold pin. A Victorian, pearl and diamond Caduceus brooch from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness, The Prince of Wales. With a nod to Greek mythology, the bodies of two enamel serpents coil upwards along Hermes’ staff to meet a pair of dazzling, diamond encrusted wings in this striking and elegant piece. Should you choose to make this purchase we will delighted to send it to you in a Bentley & Skinner handmade leather case packed in a gift-wrapped Bentley & Skinner black and gold presentation box. Shortly afterwards we will send you on a valuation for insurance purposes for your reference and safekeeping.
