Victorian 18 Karat Gold Essex Crystal Dog Miniature Bar Brooch
About the Item
This is a Victorian bar brooch crafted in 18K yellow gold depicting a cute Jack Russell Terrier. The circular detail is made of cabochon cut rock crystal, which back is covered with nacre. The picture of a dog is hand drawn and is remarkably lifelike.
The piece is made using a complex reverse intaglio technique. It was extremely popular in England at the turn of the XX century. A rock crystal cabochon was used for this purpose. By carving its flat back and painting it, a three dimensional image was created. It was usually covered with gold plate or nacre.
