Antique Onyx and Rose Cut Diamond Gold Pin Brooch
About the Item
An antique Victorian rose cut diamond and onyx oval pin brooch. The onyx gradually slopes towards the diamond in the center. The heart-shaped diamond is rose cut and bezel set with small prongs on top. The 14 karat gold rim is decorated with small triangles. These triangles are alternately etched with polished and a matte satin gold finish. Around the gold frame, a gold twisted ribbon embellishes the brooch as a whole.
Onyx jewelry were mostly worn in The Grand Victorian Era, between ca. 1861-1880. Saddens by the death of the Queen’s husband, Prince Albert, mourning became an art for the Victorians.
The brooch is in very good condition and of high quality. It measures 40 millimeters in length and 30 millimeters wide. The brooch has a nice heavy weight of 12.8 grams. Marked and tested as 14 karat gold.
