Victorian Round Gold Brooch with Gem-Set Twin Heart Motif

About the Item

A Victorian round gold brooch with twin heart motif, one set to the centre with a cabochon-cut emerald , the other with a cabochon-cut ruby, both with half-pearl surround and ribbon bow surmount, the back with glass locket to the centre engraved around with: 'For Nana, Daphne, Roy, Phylis.' with with brooch fitting and safety chain, circa 1860, measuring approximately 2.3cm in diameter, gross weight 6.9 grams. This antique brooch is in very good condition for its age. Unmarked, tested as 18ct gold with 14ct gold pin. This lovely Victorian brooch comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. This round yellow gold brooch features a twin heart motif at the centre, a classic Victorian motif. The two hearts are interlocked with a pearl-set bow. One of the hearts is set with a verdant emerald, and the other with a vibrant ruby, both stones cabochon cut. The stones are framed within the hearts by pearls. To the back of the brooch is a locket compartment with a sentimental engraving. This romantic piece is a lovely example of Victorian craftsmanship.
