William Spratling Large Silver and Amethyst Swirl Ribbon Brooch, 1940s

Very large early Spratling swirl ribbon silver brooch with a circular 19mm cabochon amethyst, beautifully hand wrought, from Spratling's first period 1931-1946, hallmarked on back WS Print Circle 1940-1946 and with the Eagle 30 (1951-1965)- this mark occaisionally appears together with Spratling's primary mark on pieces which were specifically assigned to Spratling for his use during specific years. These pieces were often early Spratling pieces which remained in a Mexico City's retailers inventory until 1949 and were later stamped with the generic Mexico City Eagle number prior to export.
