Vintage Silver Cufflinks by Niels Erik From, 1950s

About the Item

These mid-20th-century cufflinks by Niels Erik From are crafted in solid silver and reflect a restrained modernist sensibility. Each cufflink features a circular front with a softly domed centre; the domed surface is cradled within a shallow, bowl-like surround, giving the form depth without sharp edges. A fine linear ridge runs beneath the dome, adding quiet structure and a sense of balance to the composition. The silver is smoothly polished, emphasising the purity of the shape rather than surface decoration. The cufflinks are fitted with a fixed bar toggle backing, simple and secure. Worn on the cuff, they appear discreet yet distinct, with a calm sculptural presence that feels thoughtful, tactile, and quietly confident rather than decorative. Niels Erik From (1908–1982) was a Danish jeweller and silversmith who opened his first workshop in 1931 and became one of the key figures of 20th-century Danish design. His work evolved from early floral, Skønvirke-influenced pieces rooted in Art Nouveau and Arts and Crafts ideals to a cleaner, more abstract modernist language from the 1950s onward, characterised by restrained forms, clear geometry, and a strong sense of material.
