Antique 17th/18th Century Sequilé Diamond Demi-Parure Yellow Gold Portuguese

About the Item

Museum-quality antique late 17th/early 18th century diamond and yellow gold Baroque “sequilé” earrings and pendant/brooch demi-parure, Portuguese, with hallmarks from the period and in the original case. This Georgian sequilé jewel from the first half of the 1700s features intricate filigree, pierced, and die-pressed gold work. It is closed-back set throughout with table-cut and rose-cut diamonds, notable for their almost crude simplicity. The pieces are richly adorned with chiseled and scalloped decorations, including volutes, scrolls, and foliate motifs, further accented with pear-shaped pendant drops. The dangle or chandelier style drop earrings are secured to the reverse with the original lever-back fittings. The pendant/brooch is secured at the top with a pendant bail fitting and also includes a later-added hinged pin and roller clasp for use as a brooch.
