About the Item
Fine 19th Century Archaelogical Revival in the Etruscan taste Pietra Dura 18K gold earrings with circular post back round pietra dura rondels depicting a white carnation, set in a finely detailed wirework gold setting with a double chain leading to larger intricately worked granulated wire work gold settings with pietra dura medallions depicting bouquets of white and red carnations.
White carnations symbolize pure love and red carnations, love and admiration.
These earrings are of exceptionally fine quality and excellent condition.
Post back conversion for pierced ears.

The celebrated Pietra Dura technique was perfected in Italy at the Vatican Workshops with numerous examples in museum collections worldwide. The hardstone mosaics of carefully sawn gemstones were fitted together to create miniature paintings using the medium of stone, rather than paint. The Etruscan Revival style is synonymous with finely detailed gold work using granulation and twisted wire methods.
