About the Item
A beautiful pair of Antique Victorian 14 Karat Gold Door Knocker Pendant Earrings with black Taille d'Epargne Enamel and lovely engraving throughout. The beautiful Etruscan Revival gold work is of the highest quality. They are a wonderful size - large enough to be dramatic but not overwhelming! The earrings date to circa 1860-1890.
From the top of the gold chain the earrings are 30mm long and 13mm (1/2 inch) wide.
Together they weigh 3.7 grams.
Taille d’epargné, sometimes referred to as black enamel tracery, translates from the French literally as “saving cut.” It is a variation of champlevé enamel whereby engraved lines forming a design are incised into the metal and are filled with opaque enamel– usually black.
