1970s Aaronel deRoy Gruber Orange Vacuum Formed Plexiglas Brass Belt Buckle

About the Item

Vacuum-formed orange and maroon plexiglas belt buckle mounted on a plated brass buckle created by artist and sculptor Aaronel deRoy Gruber, circa 1970's. Buckle measures 2.25" by 3.25" by .88" deep and will fit a 1 3/4" wide belt. Suitable for a man or woman. In very good 1970's condition. Signed Aaronel. The following was provided by the Irving and Aaronel deRoy Gruber Foundation with thanks: Aaronel deRoy Gruber (1918-2011) was a prolific, pioneering female artist whose vibrant, volumetric Plexiglas sculptures and jewelry, and striking screenprints and canvases brought her recognition as a multifaceted modernist visionary throughout the mid-late 20th century. 'Geometrics' was the brand identity formed by deRoy Gruber in the early 1970s through which the artist designed small-scale, wearable versions of the vacuum-formed Plexiglas sculptures she had come to master within a fine-art context. Single, double and triple tier pendant arrangements designed to be worn around the neck were crafted alongside wrist-cuffs and a variety of belt-buckles consisting of a single vibrant Plexiglas composition affixed on a metal-plated base.
