Antique 14K Gold Filigree Cannetille Needles, Netherlands
About the Item
These magnificent and rare antique 19th century forehead needle and stick pins jewelry set are made in 14 karat gold. These headdress ornaments are beautifully detailed with fine filigree and cannetille work. The gold is shaped into an ornate floral decor, the craftsmanship of these jewels is gorgeous.
This needle is a spatula-shaped piece of jewelry, initially made of silver, but in the 19th century exclusively of gold, which was worn with the broad side horizontal (formerly slightly oblique) on the forehead and the narrow end hidden under the cap. Women stuck the needle in their hair under their caps, so that the end came out on the forehead and secured the needle with the stick pins in their hair. The headdress was mostly worn for special venues.
These types of jewels represent a varied and rich historical Dutch cultural heritage, worn by women in some parts of the Netherlands.
The set is in very good condition and of high quality.
