Archaeological Revival Coral and Gold Suite

About the Item

An archaeological revival coral and gold suite attributed to Luigi Casalta, the necklace consisted of a woven gold chain with fifteen drops, the central drop in the form of a horse-shoe, set with eleven cabochon corals surrounded by gold wire-work decorations, terminating to a pear-shaped coral drop, the other fourteen drops each with a floral designed top suspending a gold disc each centrally set with a cabochon coral surrounded with wirework decorations, accompanied by earrings of similar design, circa 1840, Naples, bearing gold hallmarks N3 with the profile of Parthenope, circa 1840, the necklace measuring approximately 40.5 cm long, the earrings measurign approximately 5cm long, gross weight 69.3 grams. For comparison piece see lot 629 in Fellows Jewellery auction 13th of April 2023. This antique parure is in very good condition for its age. Marked and tested as 18ct gold. This magnificent archaeological revival suite comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales and was made in the early Victorian period. This set features a matching necklace and earrings of yellow gold and luminous orange coral cabochons. On the necklace, the coral stones are set on gold discs which are suspended from the woven chain. In the centre is a larger horseshoe shaped pendant, a Victorian lucky charm. The earrings feature coral set discs and elegant coral drops. This stunning set can be worn together for a statement, or separately for an elegant look. By family repute, this diadem, purchased in England during the early part of the 20th century, was once owned by Empress Eugénie of France.
