A gold Etruscan Revival suite with Ram’s head decorations, consisting of a bracelet, a pair of earrings and a pendant, the bracelet with a realistically carved ram’s head surrounded by Etruscan style wire and bead-work decorations, the hinged bracelet composed of ten round panels of similar decoration to an interlocking slide clasp, accompanied by pair of drop earrings and pendant of similar wire and bead-work decoration, with gold drop decorations, bearing gold hallmarks Rome circa 1860, the bracelet measuring approximately 18 x 4cm, the earrings 6.2 x 2.3cm and the pendant 9.5 x 3.6cm, gross weight 137.3 grams. This magnificent Etruscan Revival suite was made in the mid-nineteenth century and comes from the collection of Bentley & Skinner, the London jewellers by appointment to both Her Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales. During the nineteenth century, archaeological discoveries brought about a renewed cultural interest in ancient cultures, particularly that of the Ancient Etruscan people. This suite is emblematic of Ancient Etruscan revival style, incorporating ram’s head motifs with ancient techniques such as gold wire work and micro granulation. The rams head was a motif frequently seen in Etruscan jewellery, and this suite incorporates it beautifully. This parure is a fabulous example of mid-Victorian revival craftsmanship.
