Jade Necklace Untreated Handmade Ruggedly Unique

About the Item

Each natural and untreated jadeite bead of this necklace was hand-carved. These beads were sourced from a small family business in Myanmar. They do small-scale mining of jade and instead of outsourcing the lapidary work to another country like Vietnam, this family carves the beads themselves. As a result, each bead is individual as none is perfectly round. Typically, beads such as these with a nice bluish-green color would be processed —soaked in hydrochloric acid to remove the "rust" spots and other undesirable natural attributes of the jadeite stone and the gaping holes left behind by the acid would be filled with polymer. Here, instead, what we see are beads that are magnificent and especially rare because of their "flaws." There is a new generation of jade miners working in Myanmar and they love jade just as it is. The necklace is composed of fifty-eight approximately 7.5 mm round-ish beads strung on hemp cord and features vintage geometric 14K rose gold accent beads. A simple hand-forged hook and eye clasp created from recycled 14K gold completes this 21" necklace. I think the colors are amazing: from emerald green to sea-foam green; in some light, the beads look blue. They're highly translucent and display varying grain, from fine to course —sometimes within the same stone. This makes the necklace of particular interest to the jade collector as these beads perform brilliantly in all lighting conditions. They are truly fascinating. Their wild irregularity is their charm. The thick hemp cording is the perfect material for this beaded necklace as the ruggedness of the hemp is mirrored by the rugged uniqueness of the beads. This is a beautiful necklace that I created for somebody who appreciates authenticity and individuality; qualities which this necklace radiates. This necklace ships with a certificate from Stone Group Labs stating that it natural, untreated jadeite type "A."
