Antique Edwardian Albert Chain 9 Carat Rose Gold with T-Bar

About the Item

A grand antique Edwardian Albert chain from the early 1900s made up of solid 9ct gold curb links that have a lovely smoothness and strong rosy hue, each stamped “375/ 9ct”. Albert chains were popularised and named after Prince Albert, Queen Victoria’s consort in the 19th Century and were traditionally worn by gentlemen to secure a pocket watch to the buttonhole of a waistcoat. Today, they are also worn as stylish necklaces; a custom that was started by the wives of soldiers during the first world war who wore the chains as a keepsake in the hope they’d return home safely. It's a strong, weighty chain and complete with its original clasps with faded maker’s marks and a detachable T-Bar bearing a Birmingham hallmark which has been added over time. We recommend you insure for £3,950. We can provide a written Valuation on completion of the sale.  WEIGHT: 78.1 grams  MEASURES: Length 17.5 inches x Width 12mm – T-Bar Length 30mm x Width 2.5mm x Drop 40mm  METAL: 9ct Gold (Stamped)  AGE: Edwardian.
