A rare jade bead "peas in pods" and 18 karat gold choker necklaces, by Andrew Grima, 1973. Stamped GRIMA, HJ Co, British hallmark.
The necklace is a collector's piece and a prime example of Grima's design versatility. It measures 14.50" x 2" x 0.45". and sits elegantly around the neck.
Recently published books and auction sales have cemented his reputation as one of the leading independent jewelers of the twentieth century.
Andrew Grima was the leader of a pack of avant-garde London jewelers who transformed ideas about what jewelry might look like in the 1960s and 1970s. Drawn to hewing close to nature in their stones, emphasizing a wide range of stones from gems to hardstones, and texturing yellow gold in new ways, Grima celebrated form and color as an artist or an architect might. This master London jeweler had a client list that included members of the British royal family, as well as British and Hollywood celebrities of the time.
