Art Deco Collar Necklace in Silver is Dramatic Statement Piece

About

This is one for the record books. When I saw this necklace I made a bee-line for it. Only after I bought it, unwrapped it and laid it out did I realize it had been on display upside down. Let that sink in for a moment. It would be like walking into a car dealership and every car was on a lift so you were staring up at their undercarriages. And that's how you had to pick your next car. The thing is, this necklace had such a spectacular "undercarriage" that I grabbed it and ran. (Well, I paid first.) Then when I turned it over, I was blown away all over again. First of all, I spent an enormous portion of my life researching the creator of this piece to no avail. I found one other item made by this artist but the owner of that item was asking the same question I was: who made this? Is it Mexican Modernist? Navajo? I do believe it was hand-crafted at some point in the 1930s because it is stylistically reflective of the Art Deco zeitgeist. Under microscopic inspection, the silver is consistent in patina and texture to silver I own from this period. I do not believe it is of Mexican origin. I think it is probably of Native American creation, possibly-to-probably by an artist of the Navajo Nation. It is utterly and almost unspeakably magnificent. Which is to say, it causes silence to occur in the room when the necklace enters around someone's neck. I have watched this happen. It is fascinating. Diamonds do not have this effect. Diamonds by the yard. And yard. And yard. But this? It halts conversation; it hijacks eyeballs, it causes people to stop breathing momentarily. I honestly am at a loss as to how to describe this. The workmanship is so fine that it is, itself, art. You truly can wear this necklace "upside down" and it's stunning. It's the pinnacle of silversmithing. It kills me not to know who created it because it is a work of brilliance. At 14.50" in length and 1.75" inches wide, it's meant to be worn as a collar that fans out just above the clavicles.
